Saugatuck Fishing Report May 20, 2013
Excellent fishing continues off Saugatuck right now with catches of 8-15 fish per trip. The largest average weight of spring Chinook salmon in many years is happening so far this season, with kings over 20lbs being taken. Lake Trout are mixed in along with steelhead beginning to show. There are occasional coho being taken which is late for this time of year.
Huge schools of baitfish are along the harbors and are keeping the fish close. Best setups fishing in the bait are Blood Run Coppers in 32lb at 150, 200 and 250 right now. Blood Run wire divers both up high and down low are taking the biggest kings by far. Downriggers with 11” Dreamweaver Paddles and Action Flies are the most consistent producers for trout and mid-sized kings.
Silver Streak spoons on the coppers in Orange Killer, Pink Panties, Hot Lobster, Green Dolphin and Lemonberry are all working excellent.
Now is the time to book your trip for what will prove to be the largest year class of Chinook by weight that we have seen in decades!
